Director-at-Large, Katriina Byström
Katriina Byström, PhD., is Associate Professor/Reader at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science, University of Borås in Sweden. In teaching and research she focuses on task-based information seeking and retrieval in workplaces, and on information architecture. She holds a PhD. from the University of Tampere, Finland, and is an active member of the academic community of LIS within teaching, research and administration. She has been the director of the Swedish School of Library and Information Science, and served on numerous committees, for example as the international member in the latest of influential UK Research Assessment Exercises. She is the co-founder and associate editor of the international Journal of Information Architecture, and has a broad experience of serving as a peer-reviewer in a number of high-standard journals such as
JASIST and IPM, as well as at conferences such as ISIC and
SIGIR. She has organized international academic events, for example in the role of conference chair of CoLIS 6 and presently as chair of the IIiX doctoral consortium. She has experience of curriculum development and chairing an educational
programe, most recently within information architecture (Bachelor degree). Furthermore, she works as a senior researcher in a private company. At present, she heads two research projects: Better Search Engine
focusing on work task based search support, and Better Web with focus on the development of digital information and communication milieus.
