Avoiding Scam Emails and Starting the Year with a Bang! Security Update, Review of FAQs, and Current Projects

Jeremy L. McLaughlin, Chair, ASIS&T Professional Development Committee

During this Leadership Development webinar, we will discuss best practices for dealing with recent scam emails, review some common FAQs related to events, and hear from leaders who are working on project for the early part of 2019.

This webinar will begin with a Membership & Communications update from Rodneikka Scott concerning phishing and fraudulent emails. Individual and groups across ASIS&T are at-risk for different email scams, including what appear to be messages from ASIS&T officials or finance-related requests from group leaders. Rodneikka will discuss how to identify and deal with these messages and how to work with the Association if you think there is a problem.

There are a number of successful recurring events and new activities across the Association, and it is important to begin each calendar year with some ideas for the spring…and not to forget the various deadlines related to activities at the Annual Meeting. In addition to answering any pre-submitted questions, we will quickly review the updated Project Planning Document to help remind leaders about potential activities, to plan for Annual Meeting submissions, and to maximize activities during the second half of the ASIS&T fiscal year. We will also hear from the Professional Development Committee and others regarding current projects and any group planning needs or possible collaborations.

This will be the first of four Leadership Development webinars in 2019. In future webinars, we will look at Annual Report requirements and answer questions about reporting and budgets, prepare for leadership activities at the 2019 Annual Meeting and welcome the 2019 New Leaders, and introduce the Leadership Video Series.
