Aines (1913-1996) had an illustrious career in the United States Army and in the field of information science.  He worked as an assistant manager at George James Co. from 1938-1941  before entering the U.S. Army in 1942 as a 2nd Lieutenant.  He retired from the Army in 1967 as a Colonel.  He also served as Technical Assistant, President’s Science Adviser (1964-1971), as well as a Senior Staff Associate at the National Science Foundation, Director of Energy at the STI Program, Defense STI Program, and Scholar-in-Residence at the National Library of Medicine.
