After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Elias (1927-2011) worked as a pharmacologist at Maltbie Labs, and later at Warner-Lambert.  Elias then worked as manager in the Science Information Section at Wyeth Labs.  He served as Director at the Institute for Science Information in Philadelphia, before taking a posting as Associate Professor of Information Science in the Graduate School of Library Science at Drexel University.  Elias was a prolific writer in the field, publishing several books and technical papers.  He served as the editor of the Journal of the American Society for Information Science as well as Information Sciences and Use.  In 1992 Elias retired as Director of Marketing and Distribution from Biological Abstracts, Inc.
