Bourne’s (b. 1931) professional interests include library analysis, automation and evaluation, natural systems and issues.  Bourne worked as a Research Engineer at Stanford Research Institute (1957-1966); Vice-President, Information General Corporation (1966-1968); President, Bourne & Associates (1968-1971); Professor, University of California, Berkeley, School of Library Science (1971-1977); Head of product development team, DIALOG Information Services, Inc. (1977); Director, Institute Library Research, UC-Berkeley (1971-1977); Consultant, UNESCO and National Academy of Science.
