Dolby (b. 1926) specialized in research and development, particularly data analysis, pattern recognition, and linguistic computation. After 9 years as Manager of the English Lab at GE from 1951-1960, he worked as a consultant at Lockheed (1960-1964) and Corporate Economic & Industrial Research (1964-1965). He was made Partner at R&D Consulting Co., and remained there from 1965-1977. Concurrently, he taught math as an Associate Professor at San Jose State University from 1966-1974, and was made a full Professor of Math and Computer Science in 1974.
