Submission Instructions & Policies


  • To submit a Paper / Poster / Panel / Alternative Event, please upload a Word document through the ConfTool Site. For detailed Doctoral Colloquium submission instructions, please see the separate instructions. Submissions (except for workshops and doctoral colloquium proposals which do not require the use of the template) should be formatted according to the AM24 Proposal Template Instructions. Submissions must comply with the page limits noted in the instructions. Please scroll down and follow the naming conventions noted at the bottom of this page.
  • To submit a Workshop, please complete the required information in ConfTool.Be very clear in your abstract how the workshop will be conducted and what the learning objectives will be and how those will be accomplished. It’s important that workshops be interactive and allow for audience participation. These are not intended to be panel discussions.
  • We request that you disclose use/non-use of generative AI tools/services in the authoring of submissions. Please read this section in the AM24 Proposal Template Instructions. prior to authoring your submission so you can plan appropriately.
  • In considering whether and/or how to use generative AI tools, we encourage authors to educate themselves on the nature, affordances, and limitations of generative AI technologies prior to their use. These technologies may produce content containing incorrect statements and fictional citations, and exhibit bias due to the content that they are trained on. A generative AI tool should not be treated as or listed as an author. Thus, it is the responsibility of authors to assess the validity and relevance of any AI output that is submitted.
  • There are privacy and intellectual property concerns with the use of generative AI tools. For example, if sensitive information is uploaded to a generative AI tool, there is potential for the AI tool to reproduce this information in its output. Further, there is the potential for unattributed intellectual contributions to be included in AI generated content. Thus, we encourage authors to refrain from uploading sensitive information to a generative AI tool and to take responsibility for citing prior intellectual contributions in their work.
  • Scholarly research is often a collaborative endeavor. We encourage conversations about authorship within research teams when preparing to submit a paper, including who should and should not be listed as author, and the order of authorship. . All authors are expected to make a clear and substantial contribution to the paper. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to provide a statement of author attribution using the CrediT Taxonomy.
  • In some cases, positionality statements can provide valuable context for understanding and evaluating research contributions. Authors are invited to provide positionality statements, as appropriate to their work and research context. Authors are not required to include such statements, nor to disclose aspects of their identity


  • All presenters must attend the Annual Meeting and register by the Early Bird Deadline (August 5). Please keep in mind that virtual (except for virtual workshops held prior to the meeting) and prerecorded presentations will not be permitted except in cases where a disability accommodation has been approved by the Executive Director. Disability accommodation must be requested in writing by 3 June 2024 by emailing Only individuals with approved disability accommodation will be permitted to present virtually. Presenters who receive disability accomodation must still register for the meeting at the one-day rate.
  • If a person has contributed to the submission, but will not be attending the meeting, do not check the box indicating the person is a presenter. Unless an accommodation has been approved in advance as noted above, for papers and posters to be included in the conference Meeting App and Proceedings, at least one author must register and attend the meeting in person. For panels and alternative events, all panelists must register and attend in person unless an accommodation has been approved.
  • To ensure a diverse program and allow more presenters an opportunity to present, a single presenter must not be listed on more than five (5) submissions.
  • Only one poster may be presented per person. If more than one poster is accepted for a single presenter, a coauthor must be available to present the poster. At least one (1) presenter must be present at the poster to present.
  • If your submission is endorsed by a special interest group (SIG), verification of this endorsement will be required. Please reach out to SIGs early so that they have time to seek approval(s) as needed.

A NOTE ABOUT THE CONFERENCE THEME: Putting People First: Responsibility, Reciprocity and Care in Information Research and Practice

We are keen to receive contributions of any type that align with the main conference theme. These presentations should have the potential to stimulate discussion at the conference and produce transferable lessons to others.

Further, we welcome submissions as a special category of long papers, short papers, or posters that describe library and information science research has been translated into a practice situation or policy outcome, and the resulting effects. Such papers should contain: a description of the underlying research, a description of mechanisms or processes by which the research was translated into concrete outcomes, a description of who was affected and in what way by these outcomes, and a reflection of the process of translating research into practice or policy. Authors may be describing a translation of their own research or of LIS research conducted by others with an emphasis on societal uptake and impact. Submissions of this type should use the keyword ResearchIntoPractice at submission time.

All accepted Papers (only if you would like your paper published in the Proceedings, which is optional), Panels, Alternative Events, and Posters must be revised per any recommendations made by the reviewers.

Final submissions must be formatted according to the AM24 Proposal Template Instructions. Be sure to add the author and co-author names, along with their affiliation and email address to the top of your paper under the title. When making revisions, be sure that the page count does not exceed the page limits noted in the template instructions including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), not including references (do not include appendices).

Authors of accepted papers and posters will be asked to provide a statement of contribution using CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). CRediT includes 14 distinct roles: conceptualization, data curation, formal analysis, funding acquisition, investigation, methodology, project administration, resources, software, supervision, validation, visualization, writing – original draft, and writing – review and editing. The 2024 ASIS&T Annual Meeting will be a fully in-person meeting without virtual attendance or presentation options. Please do not make a submission unless you will be attending and registering for the meeting.


Publication of your Long Paper, Short Paper, Panel, Alternative Event, or Poster in the Proceedings is optional. Previous years’ Proceedings are published at the ASIS&T online library. Author(s) retain copyright of articles published in the Proceedings. Authors may self-archive the submitted (preprint) version of the article at any time and may self-archive the accepted (peer-reviewed) version after an embargo period. Please see Wiley's Self-Archiving Policy for details.
