2025 Annual Meeting Program Committee
Welcome!
On behalf of the Conference Committee, please join us for the 88th Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) Annual Meeting.
We are excited that the ASIS&T Annual Meeting is taking place in Washington, DC in the United States. DC is a world-class destination featuring historic monuments and museums, performing arts at acclaimed theaters, shopping in historic Georgetown, live music venues, sporting entertainment, Michelin-starred restaurants, and more. We look forward to many thought-provoking paper presentations, workshops, alter native events, and panels, inspired discussions, and opportunities to meet up with friends and colleagues through social events.
This year’s theme for our Annual Meeting is “Difficult Conversations: The Role of Information Science in the Age of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence” provides the opportunity for information science scholars and practitioners to engage in critical conversations around the development and use of AI today. Information scientists and practitioners have critical leadership roles in this difficult conversation as we strive to engage in reflection, debate, and respectful conversation around the global future of AI. Information science should play a greater role in creating policy, theories of ethical information use, and insightful models of information use that can be part of a better solution for Human-AI interaction in these turbulent and complex times. As the premier international conference in the field, the ASIS&T Annual Meeting is a forum to engage in these difficult conversations, to draw attention to, and learn from each other, as we move research and practice forward in the age of AI.
We have one keynote speaker for our Annual Meeting. Our opening plenary session will feature Dr. John Symons, Professor of Philosophy and Courtesy Professor of Computer Science at The University of Kansas and Director of the Center for Cyber Social Research. His research areas include philosophy of technology and general philosophy of science. John has served as visiting faculty at Peking University and The University of Lisbon. He is also a member of the Institut International de Philosophie (IIP) and is an associate member of the Institut d'histoire et de philosophie des science et des techniques (IHPST), Paris 1. In 2022 he was elected a member of the International Academy for Philosophy of Science (AIPS).
Instead of a closing plenary speaker this year, we have designed an engaging debate panel centered around the question: Should library and information scientists and practitioners have a central role in AI development and use?
We are most grateful to our conference leadership team for all their insight, dedication, and hard work. Thanks to paper chairs Jenny Bossaller and Dania Bilal, poster chairs Syeda Hina Batool/Shahid and Chang Liu, panels & alternative events, co-chairs Daqing He and Lingzi Hong, doctoral colloquium co-chairs Denise Agosto and Africa Hands, and early career colloquium co-chairs Mega Subranamian and Diane Kelly, we have stimulating and inspiring program planned for you.
We look forward to an important and exciting conference in Washington, DC. We hope to see you there!
