AM25 Workshop
The Land of Discovery: Searching for and Discovering OA Publications
Join our half-day workshop to discuss OA discovery challenges, learn from information-seeking studies on OA, and collaborate in breakout groups to design effective signals and awareness strategies that help users—inside and outside academia—better access, use and trust open access resources.
More about this Workshop
What do users know about open access publications? How do they discover them? With limited research, these questions are still unanswered about information-seeking behavior for OA content. This half-day workshop will engage attendees in a discussion about users’ OA discovery journey, brainstorm what signals help users identify, evaluate and access OA resources, and the types of public awareness strategies that encourage users beyond academia to consider using open access content. The workshop will start with a full discussion about the state of OA at their home institutions. Then the organizers will provide a brief overview of OCLC’s OA Discovery report user survey findings situated in the landscape of information-seeking for OA. Attendees will spend the remaining 3 hours in breakout groups to co-design strategies for increasing OA awareness among users. One set of co-designers will tackle signals for OA and the other will brainstorm about awareness strategies.
