Libraries in the Cloud

Please join us for our Annual Chapter Meeting:

Libraries started moving their services to “the cloud” long before the metaphor emerged to describe the popular trend.  Nevertheless, locally deployed and managed systems prevail in the world of library back-office operations.  Andrew will talk about the library’s place in the web-scale landscape and the inherent opportunities in moving library management services to the cloud, as well as the specific things that OCLC is working on in order to make such a strategy a practical consideration for libraries.

PRESENTER ANDREW PACE is Executive Director for Networked Library Services at OCLC, where he is directing projects to move library management services to the network level.  He was formerly Head of Information Technology at North Carolina State University Libraries, where he spent 9 years participating in several digital library projects.  Pace is currently Past President of the Library and Information Technology Association, a division of the ALA.  He also serves on the NISO Information standards Quarterly editorial board.  He is a frequent speaker and writer on several library topics.  His blog, “Hectic Pace” is available at http://community.oclc.org/hecticpace/
