CO-ASIS&T Annual Business Meeting – Copyright & You

This is our annual business meeting where the chapter officers provide an update to the membership and open the floor for nominations for open office positions.

During this seminar you will learn basic copyright information and gain an understanding of fair use. There will be information on the history of copyright, using copyright-protected work, and the public domain.  We will also provide information on the use of copyright-protected works in the library and in teaching materials. Fair Use and other exceptions provided to libraries and archives under the United States Copyright Act will also be discussed in depth. Fair use frequently functions as an exemption to the copyright law for educational and socially important purposes such as teaching, research, criticism, commentary, parody, and news reporting. This seminar will help to explain how fair use applies in libraries and will discuss each of the four factors using scenarios and examples to illustrate a full analysis.
