ASIS&T South Asia Chapter : Best Research Paper Award 2021-2022

The South Asia Chapter is pleased to announce the "Best Research Paper Award 2021-2022"

1. Nature of the Award

The award is established in 2022 by the South Asia Chapter of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T). The award winner will receive a certificate.

2. Purpose of the Award   

The purpose of this award is to recognize the best-refereed paper published by a member of the ASIS&T South Asia Chapter during the previous year.

3. Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Authors need to be continuing members of the ASIS&T SA Chapter for the preceding two years (since July 2020 for this year’s award).
  • The jury will consider those papers published between 1st July 2021 to 30th June 2022.
  • The nominated paper should have been already published in a journal with an ISSN and should have been indexed in a national/international indexing service acceptable to the jury. The papers published in the ASIST proceedings within the period concerned are also eligible.
  • Submitted paper should be in English language.
  • Each author can submit only one paper.

4. Administration

ASIS&T South Asia Chapter Best Research Paper Award will be sponsored by the South Asia Chapter of ASIS&T and will be administered by the elected Committee for the year.

  • Self-nominations are welcome.

6. Jury Committee

  • The ASIS&T South Asia Chapter Best Research Paper Award committee shall serve as the Jury for this award with the SA Chapter Chair serving as the Jury Chair.
  • If any Jury member has been nominated for this award, the Jury Chair shall appoint another member from among the chapter members to serve on the Jury, in place of the nominee.
  • If the Jury Chair has been nominated for this award, the Chapter Advisor shall serve as Jury Chair and shall appoint another member to serve on the Jury, in place of the nominee.

 7. Selection Process

The content of each eligible research paper shall be appraised in terms of the following criteria as appropriate:

  1. Societal or scholarly significance of the topic discussed
  2. Appropriateness of the methodology
  3. Creativity and originality of the content
  4. Clarity of expression
  5. Presentation quality
  • Jury members will rate each nominee on a scale of 5 (highest) to 1 (lowest) on each of the criteria listed above, and send their ratings to the jury chair by October 15. Jury members should also submit 1-2 sentences for each nominee summarizing what they see as the most exemplary accomplishments of that nominee with regard to the published paper concerned. The nominee with the highest point total shall be the winner.
  • In the event of a tie, the jury chair will identify an additional jury member to break the tie. This new jury member will evaluate only the tied nominations and will rate them using the same criteria listed above used by the other jurors.
  • If the vote is not unanimous, the Jury shall decide if more than one award should be given. If necessary, run-off votes may be taken or the Jury Chair may convene a conference call to resolve the decision.
  • If there are no appropriate candidates, the award need not be given in a particular year.
  • The Jury Chair shall provide a 150-word abstract, stating why the award was given. This abstract will be used to publicize the award.

 8. Presentation of the Award

The award shall be presented to the winner at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting and/or through email.

 9. Publicity

The award shall be publicized through the ASIS&T and the SA Chapter through designated communication mediums.

 10. Deadlines

  • Appointments to the Jury Committee shall be made in advance of the award year and not later than the start of the ASIS&T annual meeting.
  • Selection shall be made, and the Chair of the Committee shall announce the winner 15 days before the start of the ASIS&T annual meeting.
  • Submission deadline: 25th September 2022.
