Chapter News- March 2022

Africa Chapter

This year, the ASIS&T Africa chapter's priority is to build a strong network of professors, researchers, students, and professionals in the field of information sciences and technologies. The chapter's main objective is to promote collaboration and sharing spirit within the community.

For this purpose, the chapter establishes a mentorship programme for African authors/early career researchers and mentor them to submit papers for the ASIS&T Annual Meeting and journals such as JASIS&Tand Information Matters. This program opens applications to ten mentors and  10 mentees. The mentees will be diversified in terms of geographical location and gender. The project will provide an honorarium to mentors to purchase online publications like Amazon vouchers for $200. Mentors will also benefit from the co-authored articles with the mentees.

The chapter has also launched a call for sponsoring events that aim to promote ASIS&T locally or at the country or regional level. Such events can be physical or online seminars/meetings. the Award is an honorarium to purchase an online publication (i.e. $100) to 10 members.

Many chapter officers are also engaged to produce a high-quality marketing video incorporating the Anglophone, Francophone and many languages from different regions in Africa. The project aims to capture member stories and testimonials to showcase the Chapter and ASIS&T and will be shared on all ASIS&T social media platforms. This video can then be adapted for use by ASIS&T Headquarters and other interested chapters.

Finally, the first General meeting of this year was an opportunity to meet the chapter members and to make it not an ordinary event but an opportunity to discover the diversity of the community. The theme was "Getting to understand our diverse African cultures " and many members brought their traditional drinks and/or presented their traditional dresses. It was a moment of sharing and networking that brought more joy and pleasence to the meeting.
