Changes Coming to ASIS&T Annual Meeting

The ASIS&T 2025 Annual Meeting Program Committee is excited to announce several changes to the meeting that we will be piloting this year. If successful they will become a regular part of the Annual Meeting. These include:

Meeting Format: The ASIS&T Annual Meeting remains primarily a face-to-face gathering, and no virtual or recorded presentations will be permitted during the meeting. However, ASIS&T recognizes that there are circumstances that prohibit an individual who might otherwise want to attend the in-person meeting to be unable to attend. To accommodate these individuals, a virtual satellite meeting will be held on December 10, 2025. Papers and posters presented at the virtual satellite meeting will be published in the Proceedings. In the submission form you will be asked to indicate if you are unable to attend the meeting in person and want your submission to be considered for a virtual presentation. Circumstances under which virtual presentations will be invited include:

  • The individual requesting to present virtually can document or demonstrate:
    1. A disability
    2. Prior or anticipated difficulty in obtaining a visa to travel to the US
    3. Significant financial hardship
  • There are more high-quality submissions than can be accommodated in the face-to-face meeting.

All submissions, regardless of presentation format, will undergo the same peer review process.

There will be $350 registration fee to attend and present at the virtual meeting. All face-to-face meeting attendees will have access to the satellite meeting at no additional cost.

Meeting Language: The primary language of the 2025 ASIS&T Annual Meeting will be English and all submissions must be made in English. However, accepted presenters will have the option to present in the language of their choice as we will once again be using translation software that will allow attendees to see/hear the translation live. Presentation slides should be in English or may be in both English and the language of the presentation.

SIG & Chapter Pre-Meeting Events: In 2025 we will be distinguishing between worskhops and symposia. As most SIG "workshops" at Annual Meeting are actually more akin to a symposium (a series of research papers and posters with minimal interaction between presenters and attendees), we will henceforth refer to those sessions as symposia rather than workshops so that attendees can better understand what the event is before registering. A workshop, on the other hand, will be a structured meeting or educational program where people collaborate to learn skills, solve problems, or work on a project. Workshops will have a clearly defined set of learning outcomes and provide time for attendees to have hands-on experience with the subject of the learning whenever possible.

Education Track: Submissions on education in library and information science, including the use of AI in LIS teaching and learning, are encouraged and successful submissions will form a highlighted track during the 2025 Annual Meeting.
