SIG-AI (Artificial Intelligence)

SIG-AI and the Europe Chapter are hosting an online Research Symposium on Artificial Intelligence for Early Career Researchers and PhD Students.

The symposium will take place on Monday 25th March 2024, 1:00 - 3:00 PM UK time, or 9:00 - 11:00 AM EDT. There is still time to register to attend by clicking on this link.  More information about the agenda can be found here.

SIG-IEP (Information Ethics & Policy)

SIG-IEP is seeking contributions for the April newsletter. If you would like to contribute, please contact Jelina Haines.

SIG-III (International Information Issues)

SIG-III is seeking volunteers who will attend the 2024 ASIS&T Annual Meeting in Calgary, Canada. Volunteers will play an integral role in supporting the Silent Auction and Raffle that will be organized during the International Reception. Please contact Leili Seifi if you are interested no later than 30th April at: leili.seifi@gmail.com.


IPC Contest
SIG-III invites research papers from the library and information science (LIS) professionals of developing countries for the 24th International Paper Contest (IPC). The winners of the IPC-2024 will be awarded in the 87th Annual Meeting of the ASIS&T, which will take place in Calgary Alberta, Canada from 25-29 October 2024. The purpose of this contest is to encourage researchers from developing countries and to share their work globally. It also focuses to push advancements in information, people, and technology in contemporary societies in the context of developing countries. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts, not to exceed 5,000 words, by April 15, 2024. See more information and submission instructions here.


Research Wing
The Research Wing of SIG-III was established to facilitate informal but lasting and fruitful research collaborations and for capacity building of researchers in library and information-related disciplines. We are calling for applications for mentors and mentees to sign up for this exciting opportunity by the 21st of March, 2024. Infoshare Award
SIG-III is sponsoring another group of deserving Information professionals from developing countries for complimentary ASIS&T memberships (the financial burden of which would otherwise be prohibitive) for the year 2024. The award will be given to candidates belonging to Tier 1 countries as the candidates from Tier 2 countries can get free membership (for two years). The deadline for submitting nominations is May 15th, 2024 & the announcement of successful candidates is May 30th, 2024.


IFLA Panel
ASIS&T SIG III, IFLA New Professionals SIG, and UNT ASIS&T Student Chapter invite you to a free joint panel on opportunities and challenges in the job market on 28th March at  12:00 pm EST.

Panel Description: You will learn tips and tricks for writing cover letters and Resumes/CVs. Our expert speakers will provide insights into what hiring managers seek in job applications. If you need feedback about your resume, email it to: npsig.ifla@gmail.com. Please note that your resume will be used as an example during the panel. We will pick the first 5 resumes.

SIG-SI (Social Informatics)

SIG-SI is excited to announce a call for the best paper and emerging researchers awards in 2024. These awards aim to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of social informatics and offer a platform for sharing innovative research at the 87th Annual Meeting of the ASIS&T.

Award Categories
We seek nominations in the following two categories:

1. Best Paper: Open to researchers at all career stages, including students, early-career researchers, and established scholars. This award celebrates a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceeding paper published in 2023. The recipient(s) will be honored with a $100 cash prize and an invitation to present their work at the ASIS&T 2024 Annual Meeting.

2. Emerging Social Informatics Researchers: Dedicated to up to two students focusing on social informatics research. Preference is given to lead authors of peer-reviewed works. Winners will receive ASIS&T Annual Meeting registration support and the chance to showcase their projects at the ASIS&T 2024 Annual Meeting.

Application process
To apply, please send the following supporting materials to Julaine Clunis (jclunis@uwm.edu), SIG SI Awards Coordinator, by July 1, 2024, 11:59 pm EDT (UTC-4): We will notify award winners via email in August 2024. Please use the subject line "SIG SI 2024 Award Submission - [Award Category] - [Applicant's Name]" when submitting.

  • For the Best Paper Award
    • A full reference of the nominated article, including authors, title, and publication venue.
    • A brief explanation of why this article is being nominated.
    • A brief bio of the author(s).
    • A digital copy of the article (PDF preferred).
  • For the Emerging Social Informatics Researchers Award

    • Your name and university/institutional email address.
    • Your university/institution and department.
    • A short statement (~300 words, plus references) describing your research in social informatics.
    • Proof of student status (current course schedule or a letter from your program, department, or dissertation/thesis chair).
    • Reference any relevant paper or poster submitted or accepted to the ASIS&T 2024 Annual Meeting (included in your email or as an attached PDF).

Eligibility
At least one author of the best paper must be a member of ASIST&T at the time of submission. Award winners of emerging SI researchers should also be registered as ASIST&T members. Please provide a proof of valid ASIST&T membership when submitting papers to the call for award.
