Webinar: The Journey of Journal Publishing
Thursday, September 25, 2025 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)
Publishing a research article is a journey! We will discuss challenges and advice on preparing, submitting, and revising research manuscripts to increase the probability of acceptance at a top-tier journal. The insights are based on my experiences as editor-in-chief (EIC) of three journals, the first being Internet Research (Emerald, Impact Factor of 3.0 at the end of my tenure), the second being the interim editor of International Journal of Information Management ((Elsevier) and currently of Information Processing & Management (Elsevier, Impact Factor of 7.4). The focus will be on the mechanics of the journey, including cover letters, items on a manuscript checklist, what happens to your manuscript once submitted, handling communication with the EIC and other editors, the crafting of the response to the reviewers, the revising of the manuscript, and polishing the accepted article. We will also touch on the influence of citations, impact factors, and the contribution of reviewing the academic research process in what will hopefully be a discussion more than a presentation. The takeaways will be tactics to improve your chances for a top-tier journal acceptance.

Information scientists and practitioners have critical roles to play in “leading reflection, debate, and respectful balance” as we consider the global future of AI. Information science should play a greater role in creating policy, theories of ethical information use, and insightful models of information use that can be part of a better solution for Human-AI interaction in these turbulent and complex times.
Webinar: The Public Voice on Generative AI: Perceptions of Its Impact on GLAM Institutions
Thursday, December 4, 2025 (8:00 AM - 9:00 AM) (EST)
Sponsored by: SIG-AI & SIG-AVC
Generative AI (GenAI) has rapidly gained popularity in recent years, making its way into various service areas, including galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM). Alongside its adoption, public conversations on social media reflect both excitement about its possibilities and concern about its risks. This webinar will present our study, which explores how the public perceives the impact of GenAI on GLAM institutions through an analysis of discussions on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit from November 2022 to August 2025. Using topic modeling and sentiment analysis, we identify major themes, track how discussions have evolved over time, and uncover relationships among topics, sentiments, and social connections. Our findings highlight both the opportunities and challenges of GenAI in GLAM contexts, and underscore the importance of preparing future professionals through education and training in Schools of Library and Information Science (SLIS). We aim to inspire further research, critical dialogue, and intentional strategies for integrating GenAI in cultural and information institutions.
