Tuition Scholarships
Scholarships offered at the ASIS&T-HQ level are funded by the former SLA Scholarship Fund which was transferred to ASIS&T upon the merger of the Special Libraries Association with ASIS&T in 2025.
Criteria and Application for 2026 Tuition Scholarship for Post-Secondary Degree Programs
In 2026, ASIS&T is offering four (4) to five (5) Tuition Scholarships of $5,000 each. Applications are due by midnight Pacific Time, Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Criteria to Apply
- Applicants must have been admitted to a post-secondary degree program in Library/Information Science or a related field and must not have already graduated at the time of the award. PhD candidates are not eligible. Proof of enrollment in at least one eligible class and a copy of receipt of payment for the currently enrolled course(s) is required prior to release of funds. The enrolled course(s) must count toward the degree.
- Preference shall be given to those who display an interest in special library work and/or information science research.
- Applicants need not be members of ASIS&T at the time of application but, if awarded a scholarship, must join the Association in order to receive the scholarship.
- Awardees cannot win the same award more than once or win more than one scholarship in the same year.
- Candidates may not have received funding from SLA or ASIS&T HQ or an ASIS&T/SLA SIG, Chapter or Community in 2025 or 2026. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis; please contact the Scholarship Committee with specific questions.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have never received funding from SLA or ASIS&T.
- Applicants who have applied or intend to apply for another ASIS&T-sponsored scholarship or financial award in 2026, including those sponsored by any ASIS&T Chapter or SIG, must inform the Scholarship Committee of the other application.
- Awardees must commit to volunteering with an ASIS&T SIG or Chapter within the administrative year following the scholarship award. Such participation may be facilitated and tracked by the Scholarship Committee.
- Within six months of receiving the scholarship, successful applicants must write an article for Inside ASIS&T or make a webinar presentation about their library school experience, how they hope to apply their education in building their career, and the value of the ASIS&T scholarship.
- Candidates may not be a member of the Scholarship Committee or the ASIS&T Board of Directors.
Application Process
- An essay of 500 - 1000 words about how receiving this scholarship will benefit your career in librarianship/information science and your interest in and involvement with ASIS&T (and previously SLA if applicable). (Generative AI tools should not be used to write the essay and all essays will be run through an AI identification tool. Those that appear to have used AI generative writing tools will be disqualified.) Include your name and the degree program/school in the header of the essay.
- A current résumé / CV.
- Proof of enrollment in a degree-granting program
