From Your Executive Director, October 2026
Dear Colleagues:
As we gather for the 2026 ASIS&T Annual Meeting, there is much to celebrate and even more to anticipate. This year’s meeting reflects the vitality, reach, and growing influence of our community. With more than 450 attendees representing 31 countries, the Annual Meeting once again demonstrates the global nature of information science and technology. Particularly encouraging is that more than half of our attendees are participating in an ASIS&T Annual Meeting for the first time. These new voices, perspectives, and connections strengthen our field and underscore the importance of creating welcoming spaces for collaboration, discovery, and professional growth.
While we reflect on the success of this year's gathering, we are also looking ahead to the future of the information professions. One of the most exciting developments is the launch of the Information Futures Summit, a new invitational initiative designed to bring together leaders from across information disciplines and professions. The Summit's kickoff meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 11, in Bangkok, bringing together experts and thought leaders to examine the rapidly evolving information ecosystem and its impact on social and political institutions, economic development, and everyday decision-making. At a time when information challenges transcend disciplinary boundaries, creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue across sectors has never been more important.
The Bangkok meeting will also serve as a platform for future engagement opportunities within our community. Attendees will have access to the Calls for Proposals for two major 2027 events: the 2027 Information Science Summit & Special Libraries Conference in Denver and the 2027 ASIS&T Annual Meeting in Vancouver. These events will provide opportunities for researchers, practitioners, educators, and students to share innovations, showcase research, and explore emerging issues shaping the future of information science. I encourage everyone to begin thinking now about the contributions they can make to these important gatherings.
Transitions in leadership are another hallmark of our Annual Meeting. It is my pleasure to welcome our new Special Interest Group (SIG) leaders, Chapter leaders, and Committee members, all of whom will officially begin their terms during the Annual Meeting. ASIS&T's success depends on the dedication and vision of our volunteers. These individuals have stepped forward to serve their colleagues and advance the Society's mission, and we are grateful for their willingness to contribute their time, expertise, and energy. Their leadership will help guide ASIS&T as we continue to evolve, expand our impact, and support members around the world.
As we conclude one year and begin another, I am reminded that the strength of ASIS&T lies in its people. Whether you are a long-time member or attending your first Annual Meeting, whether you serve in a leadership role or are just beginning your involvement with the Society, you are helping to shape the future of our profession. Thank you for your commitment to ASIS&T and to the advancement of information science.
I look forward to the conversations, collaborations, and innovations that will emerge from this year's meeting and throughout the year ahead. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected, and more influential information community.
All the best,
Lydia
