Dr. Marlene Holmner holds a DPhil in Information Science from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and is an Associate Professor and the current Head of the Department of the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her research interests lie in the fields of Information Ethics, Indigenous Knowledge, and ICT for Development. Her work has been published in various academic journals including the South African Journal of Libraries and Information Science, Information Development, Innovation etc. Furthermore, she has published in internationally accredited journals such as Library Hi-Tech, Library Philosophy and Practice and Information Technology for Development, to mention a few. She has presented various papers and led panel discussions at national and international conferences such as ProLISSA, SCECSAL, IFLA, IATUL, ALA, iConference, ASIST and pre-ECIS and AMCIS SIG GlobDev workshops. Marlene is the chair of the African Center of Excellence in Information Ethics, and the Chair of the UNESCO, IFAP office, South Africa. Marlene is a member of various national and international organisations including, the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIST), and iSchool member to mention a few.
