Continuing Ed Scholarship

Scholarships offered at the ASIS&T-HQ level are funded by the former SLA Scholarship Fund which was transferred to ASIS&T upon the merger of the Special Libraries Association with ASIS&T in 2025.

Criteria and Application for 2026 Continuing Education (CE) Scholarships

ASIS&T will award as many 2026 CE Scholarships as possible within the funded limit of USD $8,800.00, pending submission of eligible applications. Applications are due by midnight Pacific Time, Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicants should have been working in the field for a total of at least 15 years or who graduated from a post-secondary information studies/library science degree program at least 15 years prior (i.e., received a diploma during or before January 2011).
  2. Applicants need not be members of ASIS&T at the time of application but, if awarded a scholarship, must join the Association in order to receive the scholarship.
  3. Awardees cannot win the same award more than once or win more than one scholarship in the same year.
  4. Candidates may not have received funding from SLA or ASIS&T HQ or an ASIS&T/SLA SIG, Chapter or Community in 2025 or 2026. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis; please contact the Scholarship Committee with specific questions.
    • Preference will be given to applicants who have never received funding from SLA or ASIS&T.
    • Applicants who have applied or intend to apply for another ASIS&T-sponsored scholarship or financial award in 2026, including those sponsored by any ASIS&T Chapter or SIG, must inform the Scholarship Committee of the other application
  5. No one CE Scholarship award can exceed $2,000.00. If a course cost exceeds $2,000.00, an awardee may receive up to $2,000.00. Travel and any other costs connected with the CE course are the responsibility of the applicant. Scholarship awardees will generally receive the exact cost of the CE course, but the Scholarship Committee may, at its discretion, choose to award only a portion of the cost of a course. Awardees will be informed of the exact amount of their award in the award notification letter.
  6. The approved CE course must be completed by May 31, 2027. Reimbursement will be made upon submission of receipts that show payment of the CE course fee and proof of successful completion of the CE course. These materials must be submitted no later than June 15, 2027.
  7. Candidates may not be a member of the Scholarship Committee or the ASIS&T Board of Directors

Application Process:

  1. An essay of 500 - 1000 words about their career path for at least the last fifteen years, highlighting important career transitions and any significant contributions to ASIS&T (and previously SLA if applicable). (Generative AI tools should not be used to write the essay and all essays will be run through an AI identification tool. Those that appear to have used AI generative writing tools will be disqualified.)
  2. A current résumé / CV
  3. Documentation of the specific CE course with a specific cost. Applicants can only apply for one CE Scholarship in a calendar year.

 

Applications for the 2026 Scholarship Cycle will be accepted through July 7, 2026.
