SIG-EduLearn
Sig-Edulearn hosted the "SIG-EduLearn Expert Talk: Information Literacy and Generative AI Literacy: Relationships and Pedagogy for the Future" on August 20, 2026. This SIG-led webinar and guest lecture on “Information Literacy and Generative AI Literacy: Relationships and Pedagogy for the Future,” delivered by Sheila Webber, explored the evolving intersection between traditional information literacy and emerging generative AI competencies in contemporary education.
SIG-III
SIG-III hosted the SIG event, "SIG-III Doctoral Seminar Series 2026 - The Research Leaders: From Curiosity to Contribution". The purpose of this seminar is to create a platform where doctoral students can learn directly from senior, internationally recognized scholars who serve as role models and mentors. By bridging the gap between emerging researchers and experienced academics, the program aims to inspire confidence, provide direction, and foster a culture of scholarly growth and collaboration in the field.
SIG-III also hosted "ASIS&T SIG-III- International Café Meet: 17" in mid-July. The topic of this one was "Research Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Lessons from Scientific Misconduct and Retractions".
SIG-LIB
SIG-LIB has continued to host “SIG-LIB First Fridays” on the first Friday of each month. These are low-key, member-oriented virtual gatherings, intended to reignite community and spark ideas around the challenges facing librarianship. Click here to find the recurring Zoom meeting link.
SIG-MET & SIG-STI
SIG-MET hosted the SIG event, "Can Large Language Models replace citation data for some types of bibliometric analysis?" with speaker, Mike Thelwall. Here is the description of the meeting: Recent evidence suggests some LLMs can score article quality in line with expert judgment-sometimes more closely than citation counts, and much earlier. Thelwall will discuss where this could be useful, what we still don't understand about why it works, and the risks of using LLMs in research evaluation.
