Webinar: Artificial Intelligence and Information
Sponsored by: SIG-EduLearn & SIG-AI
December 10, 2026 | 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM ET (Find Your Time Here)
Artificial Intelligence and Information is highly relevant to information science professionals and researchers because AI is transforming how information is created, organized, retrieved, evaluated, and shared. Information professionals need to understand AI-driven search, recommendation systems, automated information organization, generative AI, and the challenges of misinformation, bias, privacy, and information quality. Researchers in information science can also examine users’ interactions with AI, AI literacy, information behavior, trust in AI-generated information, and equitable access to AI technologies. This topic therefore connects directly with the evolving roles of librarians, information managers, educators, and researchers in ensuring that AI is used responsibly, ethically, and effectively within information environments.

Dr. Kelsey Urgo
Dr. Kelsey Urgo is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of San Francisco (USF). Her research in human-centered AI investigates how people search for information and learn with information systems, from search engines to, more recently, generative AI. She also studies how these systems can be designed to support goal-setting, metacognition and adaptation in learning, including in legal education and health information seeking. Her work has appeared in venues such as the ACM Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR), ACM Transactions on Information Systems and Information Processing & Management, and she co-authored the monograph Search as Learning (2025). At USF, she helped lead the development of the new AI major and minor which emphasize a human-centered approach. She serves on the CHIIR Steering Committee and holds a Ph.D. in Information and Library Science from UNC Chapel Hill.
