FREE Online Event (08-10 June) Information Science Trends: Health Information Behavior

The European Chapter (EC) of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) is seeking your contribution!

We invite you to the free online research and networking event on Health Information Behavior on June 8-10, 2020, 3 pm - 6 pm (CEST; Berlin time). For each day we will have one keynote followed by short online talks.

We are looking forward to listen to our confirmed speakers:

  • Title of keynote: Health (mis)information behaviour in the Covid-19 era'
    • Dr. Diane M. Rasmussen Pennington is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Information Science and the Course Director for the MSc in Information and Library Studies at the University of Strathclyde’s iSchool in Glasgow, Scotland. She leads the Information Engagement research theme within the iSchool and also belongs to the Digital Health and Wellness Research Group. Her research areas include linked and open data as well as user engagement with health information on social media, including youth mental health, dementia, women’s health, and most recently COVID-19.

Inez Bailey (Chief Executive of the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA)):

  • Title of keynote: Health literacy in practice in Ireland
    • Inez is Chief Executive of the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), a role she has held for more than 20 years. • Title of keynote: My Work Tool” versus “My Body, My Data”: Conflicting stakeholder perspectives on digital data access
    • Christiane is a researcher in Human-Computer interaction and senior researcher at Roessingh Research & Development in Enschede (The Netherlands). She has a medical background with several years of experience working as a medical assistant (GP, Urology) and holds degrees in Media Informatics (BSc, MSc) obtained from TH Köln University of Applied Sciences (Germany). For about 10 years Christiane worked as a research assistant and lecturer in Media Informatics and Web Science at TH Köln, where she also was the programme coordinator of the master programme Web Science until 2018.  In her PhD research at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (Sweden), Christiane investigated the opportunities and challenges of patients accessing their electronic health records, especially in relation to patient participation and the doctor-patient relationship. In 2019 she joined the eHealth group at Roessingh Research & Development in Enschede (The Netherlands) as senior researcher where she is involved in several national and international research projects.

We invite all interested colleagues - researchers, practitioners, students - to submit extended abstracts to be published at Zenodo, an online repository for research outputs, and present their topic in an online talk (15 minutes).

We are excited to organize and lead this online event with you together!

The event is part of the series on Information Science Trends. The events focus on a current research topic introduced by invited speakers from research and industry.

Our first event concerned Search Engines and Information Retrieval and took place in Hamburg in April 2019.

These events will provide networking space to energetically share ideas and interests from the different fields of information science and related disciplines. During the time of Covid-19, let us hold together and network online.

This event focuses on Health Information Behavior and accepts submissions on practical projects, research or practical case studies, conceptional ideas. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • investigations on health information-seeking and health information use
  • health information literacy
  • health information behavior on social media
  • health information disclosure (privacy concerns, privacy paradox)
  • conducting health information research online (esp. during a pandemic)
  • open health data

Title: “My Work Tool” versus “My Body, My Data”: Conflicting stakeholder perspectives on digital data access

Abstract: The importance of encouraging patient participation is not new, neither is the fact that patients have the right by law to view their health records. Similar to other digitalisation processes in the last decades, it may seem natural to also enable patient to digitally access their electronic health records, for instance, via patient portals. Despite being welcomed by patients, this type of digital access and especially the extend of the information shown has been often criticised by concerned healthcare professionals. In this keynote I will present the case of the eHealth service Journalen in Sweden and outline some of the conflicting perspectives and values that accompany patient accessible health records.
