Continuing Ed Scholarship
Criteria and Application for 2025 Continuing Education (CE) Scholarships
SLA will award as many 2025 CE Scholarships as possible within the funded limit of USD $11,200.00, pending submission of eligible applications. Applications are due by midnight Pacific Time, Monday, June 16, 2025.
- Must be a professional who has been working in the field for a total of at least 15 years or who graduated from a post-secondary information studies/library science degree program at least 15 years prior (i.e., received a diploma during or before January 2010).
- Must write a narrative (500 – 1000 words) of their career path for at least the last fifteen years, highlighting important career transitions and any significant contributions to SLA. The narrative should also explain why the applicant wishes to take this specific CE course and how it will benefit them and SLA. (Generative AI tools should not be used to write the essay.)
- Must submit a copy of résumé / CV with application.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have never received funding from SLA.Applicants who have applied or intend to apply for another SLA-sponsored scholarship prior to the 2025 SLA Annual Conference including those sponsored by any SLA Community, must inform the Scholarship Committee of the other application.May not have received funding from SLA HQ or an SLA Community in 2024 or 2025. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis; please contact the Scholarship Committee @ anb@platypi.com with specific questions.
- Successful scholarship awardees are required to volunteer with an SLA Community or on an SLA Association Committee, Subcommittee, or Working Group within the current calendar year. Such participation may be facilitated and tracked by the Scholarship Committee. Scholarship awardees must agree to participate in a webinar or write an essay to be published in Information Outlook covering one or more of the following topics: 1) what they learned or anticipate learning by taking the course, 2) how taking the course is likely to impact their career, or 3) about the topic of the course. The tentative deadline for the Information Outlook article is September 15, 2025.Scholarship awardees cannot win the same scholarship more than once or win more than one scholarship in the same year.
- Applicants may not be members of the SLA Board of Directors or the Scholarship Committee.
- No one CE Scholarship award can exceed $2,000.00. If a course cost exceeds $2,000.00, an awardee may receive up to $2,000.00. Travel and any other costs connected with the CE course are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Scholarship awardees will generally receive the exact cost of the CE course, but the Scholarship Committee may, at its discretion, choose to award only a portion of the cost of a course. Awardees will be informed of the exact amount of their award in the award notification letter.
- Applicants must submit in the application a specific CE course with a specific cost. Applicants can only apply for one CE Scholarship in a calendar year.
- The approved CE course must be completed by December 31, 2025. Reimbursement will be made upon submission of receipts that show payment of the CE course fee and proof of successful completion of the CE course.
