Webinar: AI as a Knowedge Worker: The Changing Roles of the Information Professionals (SIG-KM)

Sponsored by: SIG-Knowledge Management

Artificial intelligence as a technology is rapidly evolving into an agentic force, capable of performing tasks traditionally reserved and associated with human knowledge work. Knowledge management (KM) on the other hand is a field historically grounded in the recognition that critical forms of knowledge are tacit, experiential, contextual, and socially embedded, and therefore cannot be fully articulated or automated. This webinar examines how the emergence of AI as a knowledge worker might reshape the knowledge work landscape and redefines information professional roles within AI-powered knowledge environments. This emphasizes the growing need for human–AI collaboration. As AI systems are increasingly integrated in the work environment, there is a need to reexamine information professional roles where professional competencies must evolve beyond traditional functions to include more interpretive judgment, contextual reasoning, and socio-technical mediation.
