The SIG-III Doctoral Seminar Series 2026 is designed to provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for doctoral students and early-career researchers in Library and Information Science.
This online seminar series brings together distinguished and internationally recognised scholars who will share their academic experiences, research insights, and lessons learned throughout their scholarly journeys. Through these conversations, participants will gain practical guidance on navigating the PhD journey, developing impactful research, publishing in scholarly journals, building professional networks, and planning successful academic careers.
The series aims to foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional growth within the global Information Science community. It provides doctoral students and early-career researchers with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with senior scholars and benefit from their expertise, perspectives, and constructive feedback.

Tips to Succeed in the PhD Journey

The purpose of this seminar is to create a platform where doctoral students can learn directly from senior, internationally recognized scholars who serve as role models and mentors. By bridging the gap between emerging researchers and experienced academics, the program aims to inspire confidence, provide direction, and foster a culture of scholarly growth and collaboration in the field.
Speaker: Dr. Devendra Dilip Potnis
Bio: Devendra Potnis is a Professor at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK). His research focuses on access to and use of information tools, resources, and services to create value for vulnerable populations. He has published over 135 research artifacts in high-impact journals and conferences. He has secured over $250,000 in funding from ALISE, IMLS, OCLC, and UTK. ASIS&T recognized him with “Distinguished Membership” and “Member of the Year” award. He is a recipient of the "Faculty Teaching Award," "Faculty Research Award," "Bud Minkel International/Intercultural Research Award,” “Bonnie Carroll and Roy Cooper Faculty Award,” and “Sharrar Research Fellowship.”
